Home Instead Senior Care was founded by a kindly couple who wanted to provide more options for senior citizens who are in need of help during their twilight years. For their inaugural event, they invited this woman, 72 year old Mary Maxwell, giving her the opportunity to deliver the invocation.
The couple could have never predicted what would happen next and their old family friend Mary had no intentions of sticking to the provided script. The surprise that they received was not intended, but this does not mean that it was any less delightful. Her prayer was supposed to pay homage to the founders of Home Instead Senior Care and quickly went off the rails, in the best possible way.
This sweet looking elderly woman started off her prayer in the traditional manner and she asked God to bestow his blessings upon the senior care facility. She even asks God to bless the audience and the food that they are about to eat. So far, so good, right?
However, if you skip to the 1:20 mark of this clip, you can see where Mary decides that it is time to improvise. She begins her deviation from the script by apologizing to God for what she is about to say. She says that one thing she has noticed over the years is that the majority of people are too polite to ask the questions that they truly want to know about.
She decides that it is time to admit to the audience her true age and weight, letting them know that she weighs 145 pounds and is 72 years young. The rest of her speech turns into a humorous observation about the perils of aging, much to the delight of the adoring crowd.
Mary begins to speak about all of the telltale signs of aging, including that awkward moment when you realize that hair is beginning to grow in the most random of places. Far from sad about these occurrences, Mary even calls it “special”. She speaks about the first time you try to brush off a certain amount off your own lapel, only to realize that it has actually sprouted out of your chin, which brings the house down.
Aging does not have to make one bitter, and as a matter of fact, it can actually make one better. Mary is living proof that you do not have to let the aging process take the wind out of your sails. If you would like to hear the rest of Mary’s home spun wisdom about the fun of getting old, watch this clip and be sure to share it with the rest of your friends. Both young and old alike are sure to get a great laugh out of this video!
