You will need warm gloves for handling the ice cream making process. You also need a measuring bowl and measuring spoons or cups. You need an ice cube tray, a large plastic freezer bag, and a small plastic bag. Zipper lock type bags are preferred. The ingredients are milk, cream, sugar, vanilla extract, salt, and sprinkles or any other topping you like. You can add fruit of your choosing if you like. You can also substitute any other flavoring for vanilla extract. Chocolate milk makes chocolate ice cream. Add one-half cup of milk and one-half cup of cream to the measuring bowl. Add three tablespoons of sugar to the milk and cream. Add one-half of a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the mixture.
Mix the ingredients to be sure the sugar is dissolved and the flavoring is distributed evenly.

Pour the mixture into the small plastic bag. Squeeze the bag to remove all the air that you possibly can and then seal the bag tightly.

Fill the large freezer bag with four cups of ice. The ice can be cubes from the ice cube tray. Smaller pieces of ice work better because the cold is distributed more evenly and faster. The large freezer bag should be about one-half full of ice.

Add salt to the ice. You should use a large amount of salt. You use salt for the same reason you use salt in an ice cream freezer. The salt lowers the freezing point of the ice and speeds up making the ice cream. The scientific principle is called freezing point depression.

Place the small plastic bag with the liquid ice cream in the large freezer bag with the ice and salt. You want to cover as much of the small plastic bag and the liquid with the ice as possible. This speeds up the ice cream making.

Put on the gloves to protect your hand from the cold.

Shake the freezer bag vigorously for five to 10 minutes. You want to make the ice cream as quickly as possible but you do not want to be so vigorous a shaker that you spill the ice out of the bag.

Take the small plastic bag out of the freezer bag and rinse of the outside of the bag to prevent salt from getting into the ice cream. Scoop the ice cream out of the plastic bag. Add the topping of your choice and you are ready.

The recipe makes about two pints of ice cream and takes around 20 minutes to make.
