How to Make DIY Glowing Jar Night Lights

Is your child afraid of the dark? I know that I was when I was little. But, my parents helped alleviate this fear by getting me a cute night light with my favorite cartoon character. If you’re the crafty type, though, you may be looking for ways to make your own unique night lights. Look no further!

Making your own night light is fun and easy to do. You don’t even need to be a master of DIYing to make them! You do need a few things to get started, but they aren’t hard to find. First, you need a lidded jar or container to serve as the vessel for your light. Second, you need glow sticks. One color will work just fine, but if you’re making multiple jars consider getting a few different colors that compliment your child’s room decor. Third, you’ll want to get a pair of rubber gloves. They don’t have to be fancy, just functional.

The recipe for this glowing jar is:
Find great jars
Fill said jars with water
Buy a batch of glow sticks, and carefully! Glow sticks can be poisonous and dangerous. Take the broken glow sticks and mix them into each container.
These would be amazing for a little boy or little girl’s room!

Once you’ve assembled all of your materials, you’ll want to put on the gloves and carefully break open the glow stick. The glowing materials inside the glow sticks can be hazardous to humans so try not to get any on your skin. Next, empty the glow stick into the jar and fill the jar with water. Screw the lid tightly onto the jar and give it a good shake to distribute the glowing material more evenly through the solution. And voila! You’re done.

If you really want to take your night lights to the next level, consider getting done paint brushes and painting shadowy designs in black paint on the sides of the jar first. The negative space will create shadows on the wall next to the jar. You can add glitter and flowers for a girly girl and glue a tiara to the top of the jar for your little princess.

You can even create glowing decor for a more mature audience. If you want to give your home a spooky Halloween feel, try filling some apothecary jars with water and adding the inserts from a pack of highlights to the mix. Once the inserts have soaked in the water overnight, the water will glow under a black light. These creepy jars make the perfect ambiance for a spooky laboratory themed Halloween party! You can even drop plastic bugs or fake eyeballs into your specimen jars for added effect. Your party will be the talk of the town with that kind of attention to detail!

Whether you’re looking for a fun project you can do with your kids, a way to keep the monsters under the bed at bay, or a fun way to spruce the house up for Halloween, the possibilities are as endless as your creativity and inspiration can be found all around you.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this little tutorial and that soon we’ll be able to check out all of your awesome glowing crayons!
